Not my reflection

The work I’m offering this time is from the series “Not my reflection.” This series is still new and a work in progress. The series of digital and analog collages focuses on alienation and the mountain landscape. At a time when the world seems to be on fire and we sometimes no longer recognize our own worldview, these artworks offer an escape from reality, even if only for a moment.

My next trip to the mountains is planned for the fall to further expand this series.

Oxford Botanic Garden and Arboretum

This summer, I didn’t just photograph Cornwall’s beautiful coastline. I also visited Oxford. Following a tip, I visited the botanical garden there. In the greenhouses, I discovered a few real gems. The prints will soon be available for order in two sizes: A4 and A2, with a limited edition of 6 for each size. They’re printed on the beautiful matte Hahnemühle Museum Etching paper or the softly glossy Hahnemühle Baryta paper.

Unfortunately, I’m going to have to leave my lovely studio in the Hellevoetsluis fortress. Being an artist is a bumpy road. Finding the time, space, and money to keep creating is a constant struggle. Even though I had a studio where I could let my work take shape in peace, the costs turned out to be too much for my artistic practice. What good is a beautiful space if you can’t afford to buy materials anymore? Then the development of your work comes to a standstill, and that’s frustrating. So this month is all about renovating the attic and packing up all my things. As much as I’d love to get started on my new collages and other ideas, they’ll have to wait for now.

Eelke van Willegen Pop-Up Exhibition

This weekend, my brother Eelke’s work will be on display at BIG ART. His work features the Rotterdam skyline as a backdrop. If you can’t make it this weekend, there’s another chance next weekend (September 18–20). He’s holding a three-day pop-up exhibition at Het Fortuin in Nieuwenhoorn/Hellevoetsluis. On Friday, September 18, there’s a Friday happy hour from 4 to 10 p.m. Great art, a unique location, and good wine. So come on by!
